I completed my model within the first few days of this week feeling great with how on schedule I am. Below is a render of my WIP Beezlebub pub which was at the stage before having a meeting with Craig.

Upon reflection I am really pleased with how the asset has turned out and very much look forward to texturing it and placing it in my game level. Speaking with my tutor/ overseer Craig I shared my concerns about the higher tri budget than anticipated. I was aiming for around 6,000 tris for my larger assets but with the pub it has exceeded this estimation. His view was that it wasn’t horrendously over the limit so keep going with the process. His other worry was the roof tiles just dotted around the rims of the roof. My argument for this was due to the player only seeing the bottoms of the tiles from the ground however I did explain I wanted to create assets that would fit into my portfolio so having a roof full of tiles would look much better. To avoid the ridiculous tri budget I may make 3 or 4 varying tiles and then duplicate them in engine to avoid the tri count quadrupling.

Im very happy with my project progression even managing to be one day ahead for UVW unwrapping. In particular my favourite aspect of the beezlebub pub is the 3D lettering used on the signage. I feel that’s a nice touch and is a nod to the quaint English public houses with actual 3D signs. I found there was one aspect of my pub I hadn’t put much consideration into which makes creating it quite tricky and that was the front door. My initial plan was to re-create a period accurate doorway however I found these were almost to plain for my pub. In order to make it more fitting for my asset I modelled a period accurate door then tampered with it adjusting frames and edges to appear warped and distorted which I think worked a lot better.

By Friday I had unwrapped my Beezlebub pub and wanted to get the texturing completed in the next 3 days of next week before moving onto my charms shop.
